Are you hesitant to commit without being sure of how much of an impact yoga will make? I think it’s reasonable to wonder, particularly given the regular depiction of yogis as uniformly trim and fit young women. Do only thin people do yoga? Or does yoga make us into thin people?

Should you be taking turmeric? Although the spotlight has only fallen on turmeric in recent years, this golden spice has been used in traditional medicine for generations. Modern medicine is catching up with clinical trials underway in the treatment of cancer and neurodegenerative disease seeking to harness the potent effects of turmeric.

Don’t sleep on your calorie counts. This is the advice I give to the countless patients that come to my office to discuss weight loss. I am a practicing Family Medicine physician in central Florida where over 30% of adults have obesity. And while my patients see me for a variety of reasons such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic low back pain, etcetera; obesity is often the underlying pathology driving these conditions. Of course, I do my best to address the patient’s immediate concerns at that visit, but I make it a point to ask my patients if I can discuss the subject of obesity with them. In my opinion, to not address obesity in an uncontrolled diabetic would be like not discussing tobacco cessation in a smoker with a chronic cough.
